Less explored places in Kochi

Fort Kochi, Mattancherry and Marine drive are the prominent and most visited tourist spots in the Kochi. This city is never short of enticing places to see and exciting activities to do. However, there are some lesser-known places or hidden visit-worthy places in the city that still needs to make an entry to the tourism map. To help you discover these hidden gems, here are such less explored places offering unique experiences that are often overlooked by locals as well as tourists.

Kadamakudy Islands

Kadamakudy Islands is a cluster of fourteen enchanting islands very close marine drive in Kochi. The main attractions of the place are verdant Pokali rice farms, breathtaking backwaters and the flock of cranes that always adorn the skies of Kadamakudy. The place with its natural beauty and calm ambiance attract thousands of migratory birds every year. If you are a bird watching enthusiast; Kadamakudy is the place to go. Kadamakudy islands have also served as a beautiful backdrop for many beautifully shot movies and songs. The place is ideal for bird watching, backwater photography, fishing, cycling and to take a sip of fresh and intoxicating toddy.

North Paravoor

North Paravoor has a multitude of less explored places. North Paravoor can be mainly explored for its historic and cultural relics. Paliam Dutch Palace, Pattanam Excavation Site Chennamangalam Jewish Synagogue Paliam Nalukettu, and many more historic vestiges could be spotted in the place.  The synagogue has a mosque, Hindu temple and a Jewish cemetery near its premises; it is one of a kind and it clearly depicts the harmony that existed between religions in ancient times.

Muziris

This legendary port that once used to be the heart of the historic spice route vanished off the over 3000 years. This iconic historic site was revealed recently in Pattanam, after years of archeological surveys and excavations. Muziris is believed to be ancient world’s greatest trading center in the East and this port used to be the center of all kinds of trade from spices to precious stones. The Muziris Heritage Project will give you a glimpse to a glorious past 3000 years ago. The relics of Muzuris are spread across North Paravur and Kodungalloor.

Kumbalangi

If you are a lover of nature and backwaters and if you are looking for a place to experience it away from the noise of city and swarm of tourists; Kumbalangi is the place for you. Kumbalangi is a picturesque Island set in Vembanad Lake that offers a blissful hideout and a taste of the calm country life of Kerala. This quaint fishing hamlet near Kochi is India’s first designated eco-tourism village and the first rural tourism village of the state.  The place offers a veritable treat to its visitors with the canoe riding in backwaters, famous Chinese fishing nets and many other sights to savor. The place has an array of hotels and toddy shops that offer delectable local cuisine and invigorating toddy.
